Who has already read The Associate? How did you like it?

I believe that there is an error in reading "The Associate". On page 177, line 6, the name should be Baxter rather than Kyle. Agree??

Another fantastic book, and a great insight into the US law business. No, it does not need a sequel - what's left unsaid should remain so! One exception, though. I'd love to know whether the mass defection was engineered by Bennie et al. Nothing I noticed alluded to this. And, yes, I agree about the error on p.177, though I can't say I noticed it at the tme!

I too noticed the error on page 177. I can not believe that slipped through the cracks. Kyle was never in a conversation with Brother Manny. I am wondering if they will print a revised version without the error.

I too noticed that single error on pg 177. Its amazing your brain is able to distinguish immediately when something isn't just right while reading! I wish there was more closure to various items at the end of the book. It was hard to see Bennie walk away. Maybe writers want to keep the door open for sequels. Overall I enjoyed the book.

Quick question... (Apologies to those who have not yet read the book)
Given his employment status at the end of "The Associate", how can Kyle afford the agreed upon settlement with Elaine on top of his student loans? It sounds like his father cannot assist much further than the initially proposed down deposit.
I always enjoy a good John Grisham's novel. Just that question... Thank you!

I really loved this book. It is my favorite one of the more recent ones. It never occurred to me that this book needs a sequel. I am looking forward to the movie! The movies so far have been almost as enjoyable as the books and that is rare!

I think that the number of unaswered questions at the end seriously take away from the quality of this book For example, why would Bennie (and his confreres) not immediately publicise the video ? After all, it was to keep that video from the public domain that Kyle got involved in the first place. Also, was it realistically beyond the wit of the Intelligence Services to find 'Bennie' and 'Nigel'? I think not. Also, did the firm, Scully & Pershing manage to identify the 'other spy' ?

Okay, I know I'm among the most devoted Grisham fans here. But, really how on earth did "the associate" get picked up for a movie??? (And Kathy, you sound like you have to be employed by him!) Is he now only writing half-novels - so that Hollywood can write the ending for them? I was once a devoted Grisham fan, too.
After "The Associate", no more. I think he wants to write things that have no interest to the readers he originally cultivated, now. More power to him, go for it. He's made plenty of money "feeding that reader machine" - But please don't take advantage of your loyal readers by mass publishing whatever drivel stikes your fancy. As with great ball players, there's a time you should retire gracefully to the sideline - it's normally best before you totally alienate all your long-term fans, you already started that with your last book.

I would like Mr. Grisham to definitely come up with a sequel on The Associate. There are so many things unanswered. May be the sequel can unwind these - who killed Baxter? What happens to bennie, or when does he come back? Who was he working for, if not Bartin Dynamics? Where is Alan Strock? Why wasn't Nigel caught? How about John and Dale's romane
I believe there has to be a sequel. Bennie comes back, or may be Nigel or whoever. This time may be Dale has a past! who knows.....

I enjoyed the book. John is certainly very cynical about the US legal business. I'd be interested to hear from anyone with first-hand knowledge as to how realistically he portrays the life of a US lawyer? All the talk of long hours, and continuing emphasis on BILLING!

Please tell me you are planning a sequel to "The Associate." You left too many lose ends. I don't enjoy coming up with my own ending.

I think that although "The Associate" wasn't anything special, it was still a good read and definitely another best-seller from Mr. Grisham. I enjoyed getting to know how the US legal firms operate and how Kyle managed to keep his human side with all the billing that was going on.
I agree with others that the ending did leave some questions unanswered and the book needs a sequel, maybe then from the other law firm's and Bennie's point of view.
