The Appeal is the cover review in the New York Times Book Review (March 30)
John Grisham’s The Appeal was the cover review in the New York Times Book Review on March 30.
Steven Brill, the founder of American Lawyer magazine and Court TV, pens the review, calling The Appeal a “gripping tale” and commending Grisham for pointing out “how the justice system in more than half of the 50 states is increasingly threatened by the kind of big-money gutter politics that have made so many Americans disgusted with Washington.”
In a sidebar interview, also in the Book Review, Brill states that Grisham’s prose “has the texture and authority of someone who’s been exposed to [the legal system].”

I love John Grisham’s work. I own all the books & the movies. Hated the ending of The Appeal. I know it may be the way things go in real life but I don’t like to see the bad guys win.
The Appeal was Great. No other author I have read puts you in a position of actually “knowing” the Characters the way Mr Grisham does. This is probably why many say they didn’t like the ending.
I love John Grisham, he is absolutley my favirote author of all time. I hate to say it though but I was absolutley disgusted with the ending of The Appeal. I was so dissapointed by this that I fumed all night and most of the next day! This may be real life but if I wanted to read real life I would have read a non-fiction book. I read fiction because sometimes I enjoy closing my front door and “leaving” the real world for a short time. I was so disgusted I wished I had not even read it. Hopefully this will be the only one of his books to end in this horrible manner! I will continue to read Grisham’s books but The Appeal will always be one of my least favirote books.
I just finished reading The Appeal. I agree the ending is very dissapointing. I have read all the other Grisham books. As was stated by the others, this is real world unfortunately. Great book as usual!. Thanks John.
