It came by mail, regular postage, the old-fashioned way since the Judge was almost eighty and distrusted modern devices.

Ray Atlee is a professor at law at the University of Virginia. He’s forty-three, and still enduring the aftershocks of a surprise divorce. He has a younger brother Forrest, who’s their family’s black sheep. And his father, Judge Atlee, is a sick old man who lives alone in the family mansion in Clanton, Mississipi. Old Atlee feels that his end is near and issues a summons for both sons to return home.

It is typed by the Judge himself on an old writing machine and gives the details for Ray and Forrest to appear in his study. Unfortunately, the family meeting does not take in place because of the old Judge’s death. Ray appears to be the only one to know the shocking secret. But is he?
